All Things Related to Laundry

Today I have to say I'm especially grateful for my washing machine and all things related to doing the laundry. Believe me, I know what it's like to go without. On my mission in Brazil, I washed every single article of clothing I had by hand, and then put them out to dry. When they finally did dry, they were stiffer than any piece of clothing should be. While living in England, for the first seven weeks, I only had a washing machine. And it only held about four towels at a time. After that time I finally got a dryer, no excuse me, an extractor. For that is what it did, it extracted the water from the clothes in only about 2-3 hours.

But now I'm fortunate enough to live in a home with both a normal washer and a normal dryer, and today couldn't have been a better day to have them. As I mentioned yesterday, Clark is out of town. So when Sammy came into my room this morning at 4am, I didn't hesitate letting him sleep with me. Although there was a part of me that thought "I should have him go to the bathroom". But I was too tired and didn't worry about it. Kimball then joined us in bed around 6am. An hour later, I got up with Addi. At 8:15am, Sammy comes out of the room with sopping jammies and tears in his eyes. Of course, he had to wet the bed in MY bed. I usually don't worry about him wetting his own bed, because he has one of those plastic mattresses. So I realized I'd be washing the sheets today, whether they needed it or not. (But let's be honest, they probably really needed it.)

After putting Sammy in the bath, I begin to play with Addi, waiting for Kimball to get up so that I can take the sheets off of the bed. I then began to smell a rather foul odor wafting my way. Sure enough, Addi had crapped. Not just any old crap, it was the crap up the back. She used to do this all of the time until she started solids. Seriously, at least once a day. But she doesn't do it as often anymore, oh, except she did yesterday as well. Anyway, I didn't think it was a big deal, but let's face it crap is crap, and it's a heck of a lot worse when you have it up your back.

So after cleaning my mattress, rinsing out Addi's jammies, spraying shout on a number of items, I was happy to just throw the jammies and sheets in the washer and let it do it's job. I think sheets are one of the hardest things to wash by hand, and I was so glad I didn't have to. As much as I dislike doing laundry, it could have been a lot worse.

You posted this today because you KNEW I'm sitting here surrounded by 60 loads of laundry that I've been "working" on for 3 days now, right?
Sounds like a fun day! I remember Addi's pooh moments.

Hey Amanda! I was just surfing today and found your blog. Your kids are getting so big, and I've never seen your hubby before (He's cute ;)). So when you're not so busy doing laundry give me a call and we'll go out to lunch.

Miss Ya!

I am SO glad to have a washer and dryer too! Cleaning up all the pee and poop is hard work. Being without power the past few days really taught me how many luxuries I have!

Good luck without Clark. And thanks for the honest post. :)
Here, Here! I can't think of anything worse than having to do all of that kind of cleaning without a washer.

Have you seen the new washer from GE. You load six months worth of soap and softner and each time you wash, you punch in the setting and it disperses accordingly. How cool is that?! Next on the list of innovative technology, a laundry gatherer, sorter, folder and put-awayer. That's all I need to be happy.

Hey it's Jenny Gordon,I can't believe you have 3 kids! I think last time we chatted you only had 1, time goes so fast! Anyways, it's fun to be able to see everyone this way. Talk to you later.

I AGREE!! If I had to pick only one household item I could not live without I think my washer and dryer would be #1. Maybe it will change as my kids grow up, but really, I don't think I could manage without it.

I hope Clark's trip went well. It is not fun to do the parent thing alone. And it's REALLY not fun when you have to clean up huge potty messes from your kiddos. Good thing we love them so much huh!
