Halloween & Missing May

Another Halloween has come and gone. This year Kimball chose to be a cowboy. His costume was pretty easy to put together. We bought the belt buckle, I made the vest and chaps, and everything else we already had.

Sammy was set on being the Blue Power Ranger. Luckily our neighbors up the street had the Blue Power Ranger, and they let us borrow it. Thank you so much Camie, it saved me.

We didn't really give Addi the choice of what she was going to be. Her Tinkerbell outfit from last year still fit her, so that decision was easy. Although, the day of our ward party, she happened to go into my craft room and found a tutu I had made her for her upcoming birthday. She insisted on wearing it to the party. This evening for trick-or-treating, she chose to be Tinkerbell, so I've got pictures of her in both.

This afternoon we went to an early dinner with friends where kids ate free if they dressed up. Sammy (as decisive as he is) remained the Blue Power Ranger. Kimball opted for the Red Power Ranger, and Addi went with Tinkerbell.

Two years ago on Halloween, while we were living in England, my dear sweet neighbor May Fisher taught me how to make Icky Sticky Toffee Pudding. She had a little get together with some of her friends and introduced me to them and we had a great time making and eating this wonderful dessert. I decided then that it would be a tradition for me to make this every year on Halloween.
In May this past year, my friend May passed away. I loved her dearly. For the six months while we were in England, she truly took over the role of my mother. As I made Icky Sticky Toffee Pudding this evening, I couldn't help but feel emotional for the lady who brought this tradition into our lives. I miss you May, and Happy Halloween!

Saying she took the role of mother and that she taught us about Icky Sticky Toffee Pudding reminds me of so many other things about May and Nigel. They practically provided us with a complete Christmas (decorations, lights, advent calendar, invitation to their party, etc.) I learned more from them about serving your neighbor than I thought possible. I miss May too.
