Clark's Gone, Day 1
So Clark asked if I would blog while he is gone so that he can keep up with the family. Since he's in Australia with a 17 hour time difference, it's hard for us to talk. So this is mainly for him. You are all welcome to share in the posts, it just may not be as interesting to you.
So, Clark left our house last night at 6pm. It is now 9:13pm, and he probably just barely got to his destination. He left LA at 10:30pm on March 25, and arrived in Sydney around 7:45am on March 27. He literally lost a day of his life, which I think is just crazy. Luckily, he'll gain that day back when he comes home.
This past week has been a crazy one. On Monday, I started getting sick. I had a terrible sore throat, which I thought for sure was strep. I'm not one to go straight to antibiotics, so I used every natural remedy I could find. I gargled oregano and lemon oil. I used colloidal silver throat spray. I took colostrum pills. Finally on Wednesday, I couldn't handle it anymore, so I called my midwife, who recommended I start taking Beta Glucan and make an herbal tea she calls Voodoo Brew, which fits it's taste perfectly. It was nasty. It has ginger, cayenne pepper, echinacea, honey, licorice root, and lemon in it. It must have been the cayenne pepper. With only about 1/8 of a teaspoon, that tea was SPICY! The burn your throat kind of spicy, which is worse when you have a sore throat. I couldn't drink much of it, but it seemed to draw the sickness out of me, which I suppose was a good thing, but it got a little worse at first. (Just as an FYI, she also recommend that I go see my Family Physician). Whatever I had moved from my throat to my chest and my sinuses. Let's just say, it's been nasty, and I hope none of my family gets what I've had.
Thursday, I saw my family doctor. Strep test came back negative, so he added to the list of natural remedies I was already using, including, an extra 500mg Vitamin C 3-4 times a day, Mycolytic drainage 4 times a day, Colostrum pills every 3-4 hours, Elderberry every 3-4 hours, and Colloidal Silver into the sinuses 3-4 times a day. Friday was the first day since Monday that I actually got ready for the day, although I still had major sinus issues.
(I guess that background was for all of you, since Clark knew all of that. So now we start since the time Clark left).
Right after Clark left, I took the kids over to a neighbors' house so I could attend Will's surprise 40th party (Will's one of the trainers at our gym). I went with my folks and we had a good time, although it was hard for me to just stand around at a party for two hours. Just standing or walking for a short time does a number on my pelvic floor, if you know what I mean.
I picked up the kids and got home around 8:30pm. The kids quickly got ready for bed and went to sleep pretty easily. I was determined to go to be early, because I haven't had a good night's sleep since Sunday night. I ended up going to sleep around 10:30pm (which is not early for me). At 2am, I was up because I couldn't breathe through my nose, and I cannot sleep with my mouth open. I did a nasal rinse (which I forgot to mention on my natural remedies list), gargled with salt water, tried to clear my sinuses, and went back to bed. At 4:30ish, Addi woke up (who also hasn't been feeling great: runny nose and cough). She only needed a little love and a new tape to listen to, and she easily went back to sleep. As I walked back to my room, I heard something in my room. Sammy had come into my bed. He woke up with a tummy ache. This is something we've dealt with often, but it's never been bad enough to wake him up in the night. In fact, he's a deep, deep sleeper, so I knew he was in a lot of pain to have woken up. I applied a lot of oils on his tummy, put a warm compress on it, and eventually had him go potty a few times. After being up with him for nearly two hours, we both finally fell asleep (around 6:30am). 7am then rolls around, and Addi wakes up with her usual, "It's awake time, Mother." Yes, she calls me mother. Believe me, she came up with it herself. She also calls Clark, Father.) I told her to go play or read books or something, that Sammy and I needed to sleep because we were sick. She came in the room a couple more times, but I don't really remember what she said. Eventually, she came into bed with us around 8:15am and fell asleep. At 9am, Sammy and I woke up. Addi slept a bit longer, until about 9:15 or so.
With a slow start to the day, I decided that we would just be relaxing today. We spent the morning doing our usual morning routing (homework, reading, practicing instruments, and cleaning the kitchen and family room). Sammy was still not feeling well, so he laid down on my bed for most of the late morning and afternoon. He fell asleep around 12:30 or so, and woke up with a fever around 2pm. Kimball and Addi played outside for a bit in the afternoon. Around 3pm, my in-laws almost literally saved me. They came and got Addi and took her to their house for the evening. She's spent the rest of the day with them, and they're keeping her overnight and taking her to church tomorrow morning. I can't even tell you how nice it has been without her. I love the girl, but it sure is nice to have a break from her, especially in the evening and morning times. I finally got ready for the day at 3:30 then took Sammy over to my mom's while Kimball and I went to the church to clean the building. Cleaning the building wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Quite a few people showed up and it got done pretty quickly. I had to leave a little early, but I was grateful to all those who showed up to help. After that, I dropped Kimball off with my dad, and my mom and I went to the store for a few things. I rented a red box for the boys, got a Little Caesar's Pizza, and we came home for pizza, a movie, popcorn, and treats (probably not what I should have been feeding my sick kids, but oh well).
The boys just barely went to bed, and I'm now sitting down to write about the day. It's not the most exciting day, but it turned out to be a decent one. I'm especially looking forward to possibly having a solid night's rest. Without Addi and having a little bit better breathing ability, I should do okay. Goodnight!
