And So it Begins

The story of the Clark Pew Family began in the Fall of 2002.  Clark moved into Millrace #12, while Amanda lived in Millrace #28 (I think, the details are a little fuzzy now).  I don't remember the first time we met, or when we even began to be friends, but friends we did become.  Clark wanted to ask me out, but our bishop told him to wait, as he thought I wasn't ready (he was right).  We hung out quite a bit, but didn't start dating until Christmas Break, 2002.  Clark had decided not to go home to California for Christmas that year.  Since my family lived nearby in Provo, I invited Clark to spend Christmas with my family.  My family loved Clark, and we had a lovely Christmas.  I believe it was the evening of the day after Christmas, Clark and I were watching a movie or something.  I don't remember how it happened, but I just remember leaning over and kissing him.  What prompted me to do it, I don't know.  If you ask Clark he'll say, "She just grabbed me by the lapels and started kissing me."  I don't remember it being that aggressive, but we'll let Clark remember it how he wants.  Either way, we began to date after that.

It wasn't an easy romance.  I had my nervous issues (I'd been engaged once before and was scared about making another wrong decision).  Shortly after we kissed, we were sitting in sacrament meeting together.  During the sacrament, I had a very clear thought or prompting about Clark, which was, "This is the kind of guy you need to marry."  I could say so many things about this now, but at that time, it was all I needed to feel comfortable enough to start dating Clark.

We dated for only a month when the topic of marriage came up.  I guess I shouldn't have been surprised after the thought that I'd had.  Towards the end of January we decided that we should fast and pray about whether or not we should get married.  I was super nervous.  I took the day off of work, went to the temple, and just thought about it.  I didn't talk to Clark for a good 24 hours, which was the longest we'd gone without seeing each other or talking to each other.  I believe it was a Tuesday.  That night we went out to eat at Carraba's and I told Clark that I felt good about us getting married.

On Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 Clark took me over to my friend Lisa Shane's house to sit in her hot tub.  This is something we did often, so I didn't think much of it.  Just as we were about to get into the hot tub, Clark knelt down on one knee, showed me a ring, and asked me to marry him.  I had no expectations of being proposed to in my bathing suit.  I wouldn't call Clark a true romantic, but it definitely came as a total surprise.  And that was it.  At that moment we were officially engaged to be married.

Included in this post are a few of our favorite engagement photos.
